1. Verifying Deflection of a Steel Cantilever Bracket
Structural EngineerBackground
An engineer needs to verify if a 2-meter steel bracket supporting a 2000 N point load at its tip stays within the allowable deflection limit of 2 mm.
Problem
Calculate the maximum deflection and bending moment for a point load of 2000 N on a 2000 mm steel beam (E = 210000 MPa, I = 1.5e7 mm⁴).
How to use
Select 'Point Load P at Free End' as the load type. Input 2000 for Point Load, 2000 for Span Length, 210000 for Young's Modulus, and 15000000 for Second Moment of Area.
Outcome
The calculator outputs a maximum bending moment of 4,000,000 N·mm (4,000 N·m) at the fixed end, a shear force of 2,000 N, and a free-end deflection of 1.6931 mm, confirming it is within the 2 mm limit.
