Education

Protein Molecular Weight Calculator (from Sequence)

MW = Σ ProtParam average residue masses + H₂O, with ambiguity-code handling, kDa/mean-residue output, and unmodified-chain caveats. Educational use only.

Education

Protein–DNA Binding Affinity Calculator (Kd Estimate)

Single-point 1:1 Kd estimate: Kd = [P] × (1−f)/f from a direct fraction or anisotropy-derived fraction, plus ΔG° = RT·ln(Kd) and affinity bands from very tight (<1 nM) to weak (>1 µM). Cantor & Schimmel / Heyduk & Lee / Lakowicz derived. Educational use only.

Education

Protein Extinction Coefficient Calculator (ε280)

ε280 = 5500×Trp + 1490×Tyr + 125×cystine (Pace 1995, ±5%) from a sequence or residue counts, with reduced/oxidized brackets, ProtParam molecular weight, A0.1% = ε/MW, and c = A280/ε concentration conversion. Gill & von Hippel / Pace / ProtParam derived. Educational use only.

Education

Protein Isoelectric Point Calculator (pI by Composition)

Theoretical pI via the simplified ExPASy/Bjellqvist pKa set with bisection to zero net charge, plus net charge at pH 7.4, ProtParam average molecular weight, and charged composition. Bjellqvist 1993 / Gasteiger 2003 derived. Educational use only.

Education

Pedigree Probability Tree — Offspring Disease Risk

Step-by-step Mendelian probability tree for pedigree problems: autosomal recessive P(affected) = carrier × carrier / 4, autosomal dominant both-affected 3/4, X-linked recessive carrier mother → 50% affected sons. Derived from Griffiths, Hartl & Clark 2007, StatPearls. Educational use only.

Education

Recombination Frequency & Genetic Map Distance (cM)

Convert recombination counts ↔ genetic distance with linear, Haldane (−½ln(1−2r)) and Kosambi (¼ln((1+2r)/(1−2r))) map functions, SE of r, and interval summation with predicted r. Derived from Sturtevant 1913, Haldane 1919, Kosambi 1944, Griffiths. Educational use only.

Health

Pulmonary Vascular Resistance Calculator (PVR)

Compute PVR = (mPAP − PCWP) / CO in Wood units and dyn·s/cm⁵. Normal < 3 Wood; elevated in pulmonary hypertension. Derived from Grossman 1991, Simonneau 2019, Humbert ESC/ERS 2022, StatPearls, LITFL. Not medical advice.

Health

Rate-Pressure Product Calculator (RPP)

Compute RPP = HR × SBP, a non-invasive index of myocardial O₂ demand. Normal resting 6,000–10,000; >12,000 angina threshold. Derived from Gobel 1978, StatPearls, LITFL, Braunwald, Fletcher 2013. Not medical advice.

Health

Pulse Pressure Calculator (PP = SBP − DBP)

Calculate PP = SBP − DBP and MAP = DBP + PP/3. Normal ~30–40 mmHg; wide PP → high SV or stiff arteries; narrow PP → low SV. Pulsus paradoxus flags tamponade/asthma/PE. Derived from McDonald's, Franklin 1999, Blacher 1999, StatPearls, LITFL. Not medical advice.

Potassium Correction Rate & Limits

Calculate safe oral and IV potassium replacement parameters for hypokalemia. Oral 20–40 mEq/dose (120 mEq/day); IV peripheral ≤ 10 mEq/h (40 mEq/L); IV central ≤ 20 mEq/h (80 mEq/L); daily IV cap 240 mEq. IV KCl must be on an infusion pump — never IV push. Correct hypomagnesemia first. Derived from Gennari NEJM 1998, Cohn 2000, Kraft 2005, MDCalc, and Asmar 2023. Not medical advice.

Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) Analyzer

Analyze Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) with MCV to help differentiate anemias. RDW-CV reference ≈ 11.5–14.5%, RDW-SD ≈ 39–46 fL (lab-dependent). Elevated RDW reflects anisocytosis. Classic Bessman patterns: high RDW + low MCV → iron deficiency anemia (IDA), which raises the RDW early — before MCV/Hb fall; normal RDW + low MCV → thalassemia trait (uniform microcytosis). Other patterns: high RDW + high MCV → megaloblastic anemia (B12/folate), MDS, drugs, hemolysis with reticulocytosis, preleukemia, or mixed populations (combined iron + B12 deficiency, post-transfusion); high RDW + normal MCV → early/mixed nutritional deficiency, dimorphic anemia, marrow recovery; normal RDW + normal MCV → anemia of chronic disease is classically normocytic. Interpret with Hb, ferritin, Hb electrophoresis, and clinical context. Based on Bessman 1983 and Teixeira 2014. Not medical advice.

Ranson Criteria (Acute Pancreatitis, Non-Gallstone)

Calculate the Ranson criteria to grade acute pancreatitis severity and estimate mortality (non-gallstone/classic variant). Five criteria at admission (age >55, WBC >16,000, glucose >200, AST >250, LDH >350) and six at 48 hours (hematocrit fall >10%, BUN rise >5 mg/dL, calcium <8, PaO₂ <60, base deficit >4, fluid sequestration >6 L); each = 1 point, total 0–11. Interpretation: 0-2 mild (~2% mortality), 3-4 moderate (~15%), 5-6 severe (~40%), ≥7 very severe (~100%). The gallstone variant uses different thresholds and is NOT included. Derived from Ranson et al. 1974. Not medical advice.
