Calculate the Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC) = WBC × (segmented % + band %) / 100. Unit selectable: cells/µL or ×10⁹/L (1 ×10⁹/L = 1000 cells/µL). Adult reference ≥ 1500 cells/µL. Neutropenia risk strata: mild 1000–1500, moderate 500–1000, severe < 500 (agranulocytosis < 200) — high risk of serious infection, and febrile neutropenia is a medical emergency. Clinical uses: chemotherapy cycles typically require ANC ≥ 1500 to proceed and ≥ 500 for discharge from protective isolation; carbimazole/clozapine monitoring; congenital neutropenia workup. Neutrophilia > 7500 suggests bacterial infection, inflammation, steroids, or a myeloproliferative neoplasm. If only segmented % is reported, set band % to 0; if the instrument reports an absolute neutrophil count directly (NE#), this tool is not needed. Based on ASCO/IDSA neutropenia guidance, Boxer ASH 2012, and MDCalc. Not medical advice.

Overview
The Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC) Calculator estimates ANC from the WBC count, segmented neutrophil percentage, and band neutrophil percentage. Choose cells/µL or ×10⁹/L to receive the ANC, unit, and neutropenia category. This tool is for reference only and is not medical advice.
When to use
Estimate ANC when a complete blood count reports WBC, segmented neutrophils, and bands as percentages.

Review neutropenia severity during chemotherapy monitoring or evaluation of low neutrophil counts.
Use band neutrophils of 0 when the laboratory report lists only the segmented neutrophil percentage.
How it works
1Select the WBC reporting unit: cells/µL or ×10⁹/L.
2Enter the total WBC count and segmented neutrophil percentage.
3Enter the band neutrophil percentage, or leave it at 0 if bands are not separately reported.
4The calculator applies ANC = WBC × (segmented % + band %) / 100 and returns the ANC category.
Use cases
Check ANC values before or during chemotherapy cycles.
Assess neutropenia risk when reviewing WBC differential results.
Support monitoring related to carbimazole, clozapine, or congenital neutropenia evaluation.

Oncology clinician
Background
A patient has a WBC count of 3200 cells/µL, with 40% segmented neutrophils and 5% bands.
Problem
Estimate whether the ANC is below the commonly referenced 1500 cells/µL threshold.
How to use
Select cells/µL, enter WBC 3200, segmented neutrophils 40, bands 5, and choose 0 decimal places.
