MSG (.msg) is a binary file format used by Microsoft Outlook to store individual email messages. It uses the Compound File Binary (CFB / OLE2) structure to store headers, body, attachments and Outlook-specific properties (categories, flags, custom fields).

Are my MSG files uploaded?

No. Emails you open from your device stay on your device and are parsed locally. Nothing is sent to the server.

Why is there no sample MSG file?

MSG files use a complex binary format (Compound File Binary) that cannot be created without Outlook. Please upload your own .msg file to preview it.

About this file format

MSG (.msg) is Microsoft Outlook's native format for storing individual email messages. Based on the Compound File Binary (CFB / OLE2) container format, it stores email headers, body (plain text and HTML), attachments, embedded objects and Outlook-specific metadata (categories, follow-up flags, custom properties). MSG files can only be created by Outlook and are commonly used when sharing emails outside of an Exchange environment.
