Define the preliminary scope
This workflow is for an initial concrete and reinforcement check by engineers, technicians, estimators, or students. State whether the expected result is a concrete proportion per cubic metre, a geometric bar-spacing check, or both. Keep the questions separate: concrete-mix-design estimates material quantities, while rebar-spacing-calculator relates width to spacing or bar count.
Prepare units and assumptions
For the mix path, gather slump class, nominal maximum aggregate size, air entrainment, water-cement ratio, sand fineness modulus, and coarse-aggregate dry-rodded density. The tool uses an ACI 211.1-91 absolute-volume method for normal-weight concrete and reports per-m³ quantities. For the layout path, convert the reference width and spacing to millimetres or prepare an integer count. Record the source of each value.
Run the two calculation paths
Use concrete-mix-design for preliminary water, cement, sand, coarse-aggregate, air, and mass-ratio information per m³. Separately use rebar-spacing-calculator: choose Spacing to count for known b and s, or Count to spacing for known b and n. Check the displayed relationship and bars per metre. A mix proportion does not establish bar spacing, and spacing does not validate a mix.
Review before handoff
Compare the proposed arrangement with bar diameter, cover, edge distance, layers, placing and vibration access, durability, loads, and project spacing limits. Review material suitability, trial-batch needs, and the governing code or jurisdiction with the responsible engineer. Correct unit mismatches, implausible assumptions, and rejected inputs. The final note must state that calculator output is not a stamped structural design or site safety approval.
