What does the Wells DVT calculator measure?

It estimates the clinical probability of deep vein thrombosis using the Wells clinical prediction rule.

What findings add points to the score?

Findings include active cancer, immobilization, recent surgery or bed rest, deep-vein tenderness, leg swelling, pitting edema, collateral veins, and previous DVT.

Which finding subtracts points?

An alternative diagnosis at least as likely as DVT subtracts 2 points.

How are the scores interpreted?

Three-tier results are low at 0 or below, moderate at 1–2, and high at 3 or more. Two-tier results are DVT unlikely at 1 or below and DVT likely at 2 or more.

Does this calculator diagnose DVT?

No. It estimates clinical probability and does not replace clinical assessment or diagnostic testing.

Calculate the Wells score to estimate clinical probability of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Components: active cancer (+1), paralysis/paresis/recent plaster immobilization (+1), recently bedridden ≥3 days or major surgery ≤12 weeks (+1), localized tenderness along deep veins (+1), entire leg swollen (+1), calf swelling ≥3 cm vs other leg (+1), pitting edema confined to symptomatic leg (+1), collateral superficial (nonvaricose) veins (+1), previously documented DVT (+1), alternative diagnosis at least as likely as DVT (−2). Reports BOTH interpretations: three-tier (low ≤0 ~5%, moderate 1–2 ~17%, high ≥3 ~17–53%) and dichotomized two-tier (DVT unlikely ≤1 — a negative D-dimer rules out; DVT likely ≥2 — ultrasound/D-dimer).
