1. Proton Beam Momentum at 0.8c
Physics StudentBackground
A student needs to calculate the relativistic momentum and beam parameters for a proton moving at 80% the speed of light.
Problem
Determine the relativistic momentum, Lorentz factor, and energy equivalent (p·c) for a proton at β = 0.8.
How to use
Select 'Proton' under Particle, choose 'Fraction of c (β)' for Speed input, and enter 0.8.
Particle: proton, Speed mode: beta, β: 0.8Outcome
Yields γ = 1.666667, p = 6.68586×10⁻¹⁹ kg·m/s, and p·c = 1.251029 GeV, showing a 66.7% increase over classical mv.
