What is the difference between .aac and .m4a?

.aac is the raw Advanced Audio Coding stream, while .m4a is the same AAC audio packaged inside an MP4 container. Both are supported here and play with the same quality.

Are my AAC files uploaded?

No. Files opened from your device stay on your device and are decoded locally. Only the public sample tracks are requested from the server.

Is AAC better than MP3?

AAC generally sounds better than MP3 at the same bitrate, which is why it replaced MP3 in iTunes, YouTube and most streaming. Both are lossy formats.

About this file format
