Which identifier family is in front of you?
Route book identifiers to ISBN Validator, retail product codes to UPC/EAN Barcode Validator, and shipment references to Tracking Number Validator. Do not choose a path from a numeric appearance alone.

Check ISBN, UPC/EAN/GTIN, and carrier tracking identifiers for supported formats and available check digits before a catalog or shipment handoff.
Hubs
Treat every code as a data-quality decision, not as an isolated string test. Keep the original value, source row, intended field, and any declared scheme together. A hyphen or space may be display-only, but a prefix or final character can be part of the identifier rule.
For books, use isbn-validator and distinguish ISBN-10 from ISBN-13. For product identifiers, use upc-ean-validator and select or confirm GTIN-8, GTIN-12, GTIN-13, or GTIN-14. For shipment references, use tracking-number-validator with the carrier when the source knows it. Record malformed input, check-digit failure, and an accepted format as different outcomes.
A green result means the value fits the implemented structural rules. It does not establish that a book exists in a catalog, that a GTIN is assigned or in stock, or that a parcel has been accepted, scanned, or delivered. Put those questions into the appropriate registry, inventory, or carrier workflow and send ambiguous rows to a named owner before publication or dispatch.
Workflow playbook
Copy the raw code and its source context, then decide whether it represents a publication identifier, a retail GTIN, or a shipment reference before changing separators or case.
Use ISBN Validator for ISBN-10 or ISBN-13. Confirm the length, allowed characters, 978/979 ISBN-13 prefix rule, and the ISBN check digit; record the normalized value and any failure reason.
Use UPC/EAN Barcode Validator for GTIN-8 (EAN-8), GTIN-12 (UPC-A), GTIN-13 (EAN-13), or GTIN-14. Verify the digit count and modulo-10 check digit, while treating the result as internal consistency only.
Use Tracking Number Validator with a known carrier when possible, or its detection path otherwise. Review the recognized carrier pattern, length, characters, and any exposed checksum result before sending ambiguous rows to operations.
Route book identifiers to ISBN Validator, retail product codes to UPC/EAN Barcode Validator, and shipment references to Tracking Number Validator. Do not choose a path from a numeric appearance alone.
Select ISBN-10/13 or a GTIN type when the source system declares it. For tracking values, choose FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS, or SF Express when known; otherwise use the tool’s detection path and retain the result as a candidate.
A pass authorizes only the next format-quality step. It is not proof that a title is registered, a product code is assigned, stock exists, or a parcel has been accepted or is moving.
