1. Electron Confinement in a 1 nm Quantum Well
Undergraduate Physics StudentBackground
A student needs to calculate the ground state energy and lowest transition wavelengths of an electron trapped in a 1-nanometer 1D infinite well.
Problem
Calculate the zero-point energy E_1 and find the emission wavelength for the n = 2 to n = 1 transition.
How to use
Select 'Electron', set the Box length to 1 with unit 'nm', enter quantum level n = 1, and set listUpTo to 4.
Outcome
Returns an E_1 zero-point energy of 0.376 eV, displays the ladder up to n = 4 (6.016 eV), and calculates the 2 → 1 photon wavelength at 1099 nm.
