WOFF (.woff, Web Open Font Format) is a compressed font format developed by Mozilla, Microsoft and Opera in 2009 (W3C standard, 2012). It compresses TTF or OTF font data with zlib and adds metadata (license, foundry). WOFF is supported by all modern web browsers via @font-face.

Are my WOFF files uploaded?

No. Font files you open from your device stay on your device and are rendered locally. Only the public sample font is requested from the server.

What is the difference between WOFF and WOFF2?

WOFF uses zlib compression (30-40% smaller than raw fonts). WOFF2 uses Brotli compression (30-50% smaller than WOFF). WOFF2 is preferred for modern websites due to smaller file sizes, but WOFF has broader legacy browser support.
