Typst is a modern, open-source typesetting system launched in 2023 as a lightweight alternative to LaTeX. It uses a simple markup syntax (similar to Markdown) and compiles to PDF in milliseconds. Typst supports math equations, code blocks, tables, figures and custom functions.

Are my Typst files uploaded?

No. Documents you open from your device stay on your device and are compiled locally with the Typst WebAssembly engine. Only the public sample document is requested from the server.

How is Typst different from LaTeX?

Typst offers simpler syntax, much faster compilation, better error messages and a modern scripting language. It compiles documents in milliseconds versus LaTeX's seconds. However, Typst is newer and has fewer packages than LaTeX's extensive ecosystem.
