## Overview

Interactive cognitive-geometry lab exploring figures that are locally consistent but globally contradictory — distinct from existing math cases (moire-patterns is optical interference, mandelbrot-set is fractal; this is the only case on impossible figures and aperiodic tiling). Three figures rotate in 3D via Three.js: (1) the Impossible Tribar (Penrose & Penrose 1958) — three prism bars at 120° whose joints form a cyclic depth contradiction (A>B, B>C, C>A, no consistent total order); drag to orbit and find the magic viewpoint where a real twisted 3D object best fakes the closed triangle, then rotate away to expose the trick. An impossibility score quantifies the cyclic front/back relation at each joint. (2) Escher's Endless Staircase (Ascending/Descending, 1960) — a square loop of N steps each rising by h; the contradiction is total-rise = 4N·h ≠ 0 yet the path closes. (3) Penrose Aperiodic Tiling (P2 kite & dart / P3 rhombi) rendered in 2D via Robinson-triangle deflation: acute golden triangles (36-72-72) and obtuse gnomons (36-36-108) subdivide recursively. The core mathematics: inflation follows the Fibonacci recurrence thick'=thick+thin, thin'=thick, so tile counts are consecutive Fibonacci numbers (F(n+1) thick, F(n) thin) and the thick:thin ratio converges to the golden ratio φ=(1+√5)/2≈1.618. Verify the identity thick(n)=F(n+1) live as you inflate. Adjustable parameters: figure selector (tribar/stairs/tiling), camera azimuth (0–360°) and elevation (−45 to 75°) with drag-orbit, twist/impossibility (0–1), stairs step count (4–16), tiling inflation iterations (0–7). Six presets: Magic-view tribar, Rotated reveal, Honest flat triangle (twist=0), Escher stairs, Penrose tiling (P3), Deep inflation. Real-time statistics: impossibility score, viewpoint azimuth/elevation, golden ratio φ, tile count, thick:thin ratio → φ. Educational content covers local-vs-global consistency (modular hierarchical perception), the magic viewpoint construction, Escher's closure contradiction, aperiodic tiling and 5-fold quasicrystal symmetry (Shechtman 1984, Nobel Chemistry 2011), the Fibonacci connection, and applications in vision science, photonic band-gap materials, and the discovery that order without periodicity is physically real. Multi-language support (zh, en, es, fr, de, ru, pt).
