## Overview

This WebM viewer plays VP8/VP9/AV1 video directly in your browser. WebM is Google's open, royalty-free video format, widely used for web clips, screen recordings and video calls. Pick a sample or choose your own .webm file to play it instantly with no upload.

## When to use

- You have a .webm clip from a screen recorder or web app and want to preview it.
- You need a privacy-friendly playback check without installing codecs.
- You want to verify a VP9/AV1-encoded file plays cleanly in a browser.

## How it works

- Select a built-in sample or choose your own .webm file.
- The video is decoded and played by your browser — nothing is uploaded.
- Use the player controls to play, pause and inspect the clip.

## Use cases

- Previewing WebRTC recordings and browser screen captures.
- Watching .webm clips shared from open-source projects.
- Checking VP9 or AV1 playback before publishing video.

## Frequently asked questions

### What codecs does the WebM viewer support?

It relies on your browser's built-in decoders. VP8 and VP9 work in all major browsers; AV1 playback depends on hardware support in your device.

### Are my WebM files uploaded?

No. Files opened from your device stay on your device and are decoded locally. Only the public sample files are requested from the server.

### Can it convert WebM to MP4?

No, this is a viewer only. It plays WebM locally without uploading; use a dedicated converter if you need to change the format.
