## Overview

A full piano, a little room to play. Learn a phrase, connect a MIDI keyboard, or record your own.

Sound stays on this device. No microphone. No uploads.

Record up to 10 minutes or 20,000 events. MIDI saves notes and pedal, not audio. Browser timing and sound may vary; use headphones for practice.

Piano samples last up to 6 seconds; sustain does not extend their natural end.

MIDI needs a supported browser on HTTPS or localhost.

Piano samples: Versilian Studios / VSCO 2, distributed by tonejs-instruments, CC BY 3.0. Built-in melody: public-domain traditional tune.

## When to use

- Practicing scales, basic chords, or melodic phrases directly in your browser without installing audio software.
- Testing an external MIDI keyboard and sustain pedal on a supported browser over HTTPS or localhost.
- Capturing a quick musical sketch or performance as MIDI event data without microphone access or audio uploads.

## How it works

- Choose an instrument tone from Grand piano, Electric piano, or Organ.
- Select a practice room mode: Free play, C major scale, Three simple chords, or Twinkle, Twinkle melody.
- Play notes using your screen, computer keyboard, or a connected Web MIDI keyboard with sustain pedal support.
- Optionally start recording to capture up to 10 minutes or 20,000 note and pedal events directly in your browser.

## Use cases

- Beginner keyboard practice for rehearsing the C major scale, common chord shapes, or traditional melodies.
- Quick hardware checks to verify Web MIDI keyboard recognition and sustain pedal polarity.
- Auditioning chord progressions and melodic ideas across piano, electric piano, and organ tones.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does this tool upload my recordings or access my microphone?

No. Sound synthesis and event recording run entirely on your local device without microphone access or server uploads.

### What does the recording feature store?

It records note triggers and sustain pedal events up to 10 minutes or 20,000 events, rather than raw audio.

### What is required to use an external MIDI keyboard?

You need a browser that supports the Web MIDI API running over a secure HTTPS connection or localhost.

### Why do held piano notes stop after a few seconds?

Piano sound samples have a natural duration of up to 6 seconds; the sustain pedal does not extend beyond the sample decay.

### Can I switch instrument sounds while practicing?

Yes. You can switch between Grand piano, Electric piano, and Organ at any time using the Sound dropdown.
