## Overview

Create local sine-wave tuning references with FFmpeg. Choose a sustained pitch, chromatic scale, major scale, or natural minor scale; set the root note, octave, A4 reference from 400 to 480 Hz, and note duration. Every pitch follows the equal-tempered formula A4 × 2^((MIDI − 69) / 12), with short fades and a 50 ms gap between scale notes to prevent clicks and clarify note boundaries.

## Inputs

- **Mode** (select)
- **Root note** (select)
- **Octave** (number)
- **A4 tuning (Hz)** (number)
- **Note duration (seconds)** (number)
- **Output Format** (select)

## When to use

- When you need a concert-pitch A4=440 Hz (or custom 400–480 Hz) sine tone to tune an instrument.
- When you want a practice scale in major, natural minor, or chromatic order from a chosen root and octave.
- When you need a click-free local reference with short fades and 50 ms gaps between scale notes.

## How it works

- Select mode: sustained note, chromatic scale, major scale, or natural minor scale, plus root note and octave 2–6.
- Set A4 tuning between 400 and 480 Hz and note duration from 0.25 to 10 seconds. Each pitch uses A4 × 2^((MIDI − 69) / 12).
- Short fades are applied and scale notes are separated by 50 ms of silence so boundaries stay clear and clicks are avoided.
- Download the result as WAV, MP3, or FLAC.

## Use cases

- Create a two-second A4=440 Hz WAV to tune a guitar, piano, or other instrument to concert pitch.
- Export a C major practice scale at A4=432 Hz as lossless FLAC for ear-training or rehearsal.
- Generate a chromatic or natural minor scale at a custom A4 frequency for equal-tempered pitch reference.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which pitches can I generate?

A single sustained note, a chromatic scale, a major scale, or a natural minor scale, using any root from C through B in octaves 2–6.

### How are frequencies calculated?

Every pitch follows equal temperament: A4 × 2^((MIDI − 69) / 12), with A4 set anywhere from 400 to 480 Hz (default 440).

### Why is there a gap between scale notes?

A 50 ms silence plus short fades prevents clicks and makes each note boundary easy to hear.

### What output formats are available?

WAV, MP3, and FLAC.

### What duration can I use?

Each note can last from 0.25 to 10 seconds (default 2 seconds).
