## Overview

Most instruments carry a fundamental somewhere between 150 and 500 Hz, so a dense mix piles up energy there: the classic mud. This tool decodes the track, computes mean Hann-windowed third-octave band levels, and compares every band inside 150–500 Hz against anchor bands below (100 Hz) and above (630 Hz) the region — the excess over that reference is the mud estimate. In auto mode the focus lands on the worst offender; you can also pin it at 180/250/350/450 Hz. The correction is one parametric equalizer section (FFmpeg equalizer with a q-width bell) whose depth follows the measured excess scaled by your strength (gentle ×0.5 capped at −3 dB, medium ×0.7 capped at −5 dB, strong ×0.9 capped at −8 dB), never a guess: if the measured excess is under 1.5 dB the tool refuses to cut and tells you the mix is already clean. After rendering, the focus band is re-measured and the achieved reduction reported. Corrective cutting over boosting — the way mix engineers actually clear mud.
