# Audio Metadata Editor

Edit or add metadata tags (artist, album, title, etc.)

- **Category:** Media

- **Keywords:** audio, metadata, tags, artist, album, title, ffmpeg, id3

## Overview

Writes common tags (artist, album, title, genre, year, track, comment) into a new file. When the chosen output format matches the source, audio is copied without re-encoding (fast and lossless); when the format differs, the audio is transcoded to the target codec so the output is always a valid file of the selected format.

## Inputs

- **Audio File** (file): Select an audio file
- **Artist** (text): Artist name
- **Album** (text): Album name
- **Title** (text): Track title
- **Genre** (text): Genre
- **Year/Date** (text): 2024
- **Track Number** (text): 01
- **Comment** (text): Notes or comments
- **Output Format** (select)

## When to use

- When you need to organize your music library by adding missing artist, album, and track details to audio files.
- When you want to update metadata tags on a podcast episode or voice recording before publishing.
- When you need to convert an audio file to a different format while simultaneously updating its metadata tags.

## How it works

- Upload your audio file (up to 100MB) in the primary input field.
- Fill in the metadata fields you want to update, such as Artist, Album, Title, Genre, Year, Track Number, or Comment.
- Select your desired output format from the available options (MP3, AAC, M4A, OGG, Opus, FLAC, or WAV).
- Click the action button to write the tags; the tool will copy the audio stream losslessly if the format is unchanged, or transcode it if a new format is selected.

## Use cases

- Tagging self-recorded music tracks with artist, album, and track numbers before sharing them.
- Adding descriptive comments and release years to archived voice memos or podcast episodes.
- Converting WAV files to tagged MP3s to save storage space while preserving track information.

## Frequently asked questions

No. If you select the same output format as the source, the audio stream is copied losslessly without re-encoding.

### What audio formats are supported for output?

You can export your audio to MP3, AAC, M4A, OGG, Opus, FLAC, or WAV formats.

### Can I leave some metadata fields blank?

Yes, all metadata fields are optional. Only the fields you fill in will be updated or added.

### Is there a file size limit for the audio upload?

Yes, the tool supports audio files up to 100MB in size.

### What happens if I choose a different output format than the original file?

The tool will transcode the audio to the target codec of the selected format while applying your metadata tags.
