# Audio Gapless Album Validator

Validate an album for gapless playback: inter-track seam gaps, pre-roll and tail silence, encoder delay metadata, and sample-format consistency across every track.

## Overview

Upload the album as individual audio files or one ZIP and get a seam-by-seam gapless audit. For every track the tool decodes the head and tail windows and measures the leading (pre-roll) and trailing silence against a configurable dBFS threshold, giving the audible gap in milliseconds and samples at each track boundary. MP3 tracks get their Xing/Info header parsed for the LAME enc_delay/enc_padding fields that gapless-aware players use to trim encoder padding — a missing or zeroed tag is flagged because every player will then add the encoder delay at each seam. FLAC, WAV and ALAC are inherently gapless, so only seam silence and format consistency matter there. Album-level checks confirm a uniform sample rate, channel count and codec so nothing resamples or glitch-stitches at playback. This validates your files; it does not modify them.

## Inputs

- **Album tracks (audio files or ZIP)** (file)
- **Silence threshold (dBFS)** (number): e.g. -60
- **Seam window (seconds)** (number): e.g. 2
- **Gap tolerance (ms)** (number): e.g. 20

## When to use

- Before distributing continuous mix albums, live recordings, or concept albums where unintended pauses ruin the listening experience.
- After encoding MP3 audio to ensure Xing or Info headers include valid LAME encoder delay and padding tags for gapless playback.
- When verifying that mastering exports share identical sample rates, channel counts, and codecs across all album tracks.

## How it works

- Decodes the lead-in and tail windows of adjacent tracks to detect silence durations below your configured dBFS threshold.
- Inspects MP3 Xing and Info headers for enc_delay and enc_padding metadata required by players to trim encoder padding.
- Validates album-level technical metadata to guarantee consistent sample rate, bit depth, channel count, and audio codec across the tracklist.
- Calculates total audible seam gaps in milliseconds and samples, flagging boundaries that exceed the set tolerance window.

## Use cases

- Mastering engineers verifying that continuous live sets transition without audible dropouts or digital seams.
- Digital labels auditing lossy MP3 releases to confirm presence of valid LAME enc_delay headers before distribution.
- Sound designers checking seamless looping and ambient playlist boundaries across multi-part audio tracks.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does this tool modify or re-encode my audio files?

No. The validator performs a read-only audit and does not alter, trim, or re-encode your uploaded files.

### What audio formats are supported?

You can upload common formats like WAV, FLAC, ALAC, and MP3 either as individual files or combined within a single ZIP archive.

### Why does MP3 require specific metadata for gapless playback?

MP3 encoders introduce padding frames at the beginning and end of streams. Gapless players rely on LAME delay and padding tags to trim these silent samples accurately.

### What is the silence threshold setting used for?

It defines the dBFS level below which audio samples are considered silent when measuring pre-roll and tail durations at track seams.

### Why is uniform sample rate and channel count necessary for gapless transitions?

Mismatched sample rates or channel layouts force playback engines to re-initialize decoders or resample mid-stream, often causing audible clicks or glitches.
