## Overview

The same seed reproduces noise. Channel phase and level are independent. Lower amplifier and headphone volume before playback; no automatic playback. Levels are peak targets from −60 to −3 dBFS, not calibrated dB SPL. PCM24 WAV uses an exact frame count rounded from duration × sample rate. Periodic frequencies must stay below 0.45 × sample rate. Square, triangle and sawtooth waves use at most 16 harmonics below that limit with conservative peak normalization. Fades may occupy at most half the active signal. Noise and silence ignore frequency, phase and sweep controls. Excitation is a test input, not a measured room impulse response; a separate recording and deconvolution stage is required.

## When to use

- Testing stereo balance, channel separation, or crosstalk across studio monitors, headphones, and audio interfaces.
- Evaluating polarity and phase cancellation between stereo channels using calibrated relative phase offsets.
- Generating repeatable excitation tones, sweeps, or seeded noise bursts for acoustic bench tests and equipment calibration.

## How it works

- Select your target sample rate (44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz), total duration, fade envelope, and noise seed.
- Configure left and right channel parameters independently, choosing waveforms (sine, square, triangle, sawtooth, noise, or silence), frequency bounds, sweep type, phase offset, and peak dBFS level.
- The generator synthesizes band-limited waveforms with conservative normalization and exact frame counts directly into a downloadable 24-bit stereo WAV file.

## Use cases

- Channel isolation verification by generating tone or seeded noise on one channel while keeping the other channel completely silent.
- Acoustic phase cancellation checks by outputting identical sine tones with a 180-degree phase shift between left and right.
- Audio hardware linearity checks using logarithmic frequency sweeps from 20 Hz to 20 kHz on both channels simultaneously.

## Frequently asked questions

### What audio format does the generator produce?

It outputs an uncompressed 24-bit stereo PCM WAV file with exact sample frame counts based on your chosen duration and sample rate.

### Are the output dBFS levels equivalent to sound pressure level (dB SPL)?

No, levels represent digital peak targets between −60 and −3 dBFS, not calibrated physical sound pressure levels.

### Why are harmonics limited on square, triangle, and sawtooth waves?

Non-sinusoidal waveforms synthesize a maximum of 16 harmonics below 0.45 times the sample rate to prevent digital aliasing.

### Can I reproduce the exact same noise signal later?

Yes, using the exact same noise seed value reproduces identical pseudo-random noise sequences across generations.

### Do frequency, phase, and sweep settings affect noise or silence?

No, frequency, sweep, and phase controls are completely bypassed when a channel is set to noise or silence.
