## Overview

Ascending, descending and equal-frequency tones are supported; phase integrates instantaneous frequency. Lower amplifier and headphone volume before playback; no automatic playback. Levels are peak targets from −60 to −3 dBFS, not calibrated dB SPL. PCM24 WAV uses an exact frame count rounded from duration × sample rate. Periodic frequencies must stay below 0.45 × sample rate. Square, triangle and sawtooth waves use at most 16 harmonics below that limit with conservative peak normalization. Fades may occupy at most half the active signal. Noise and silence ignore frequency, phase and sweep controls. Excitation is a test input, not a measured room impulse response; a separate recording and deconvolution stage is required.

## Inputs

- **Sample rate** (select)
- **Active duration (seconds)** (number)
- **Fade (ms)** (number)
- **Noise seed** (number)
- **Sweep method** (select)
- **Start frequency (Hz)** (number)
- **End frequency (Hz)** (number)
- **Level (dBFS)** (number)
- **Phase (degrees)** (number)

## When to use

- Generating clean excitation signals for loudspeaker testing and room acoustic transfer function measurements.
- Evaluating analog or digital audio filters with predictable continuous-frequency stimulus sweeps.
- Benchmarking audio hardware bandwidth and distortion using precise target peak dBFS levels.

## How it works

- Select the target sample rate (44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz), active duration, and sweep method (linear or logarithmic).
- Specify boundary frequencies, initial phase in degrees, target peak level in dBFS, and fade envelope times.
- The generator integrates instantaneous frequency to maintain exact phase continuity and exports the audio as a 24-bit mono WAV file.

## Use cases

- Measuring studio monitor frequency response across the audible 20 Hz to 20 kHz spectrum.
- Diagnosing low-frequency resonance and enclosure rattles in subwoofers with slow linear sweeps.
- Testing anti-aliasing filters and DSP crossover curves in digital audio equipment.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the generated WAV file a measured room impulse response?

No. The generator produces a test excitation signal; capturing a room impulse response requires playing, recording, and deconvolving the sweep.

### What is the maximum frequency allowed for a sweep?

Periodic signal frequencies must remain below 0.45 times the selected sample rate to prevent aliasing.

### What audio format does the tool generate?

It generates an uncompressed mono PCM24 WAV file with an exact frame count calculated from duration and sample rate.

### How do linear and logarithmic sweeps differ?

Linear sweeps spend equal time in every Hertz band, while logarithmic sweeps spend equal time per octave or decade.

### Will the audio play automatically after generation?

No. There is no automatic playback, so you can safely set your playback system volume before testing.
