## Overview

ACX requires 0.5-1 second of room tone (or clean silence) at the start and end of each chapter file, plus a brief room-tone gap between concatenated chapters. This tool takes your chapter audio(s) and wraps each one with the specified lead-in and lead-out silence, then concatenates them with room-tone gaps between. You can use an uploaded room-tone sample (recommended for a natural sound) or generate clean synthetic silence. Output is a single file ready for ACX upload.

## Inputs

- **Chapter Audio** (file): Select chapter 1 audio
- **Chapter 2 (optional)** (file): Chapter 2 audio (optional)
- **Chapter 3 (optional)** (file): Chapter 3 audio (optional)
- **Room Tone Source** (select)
- **Room Tone Sample** (file): Upload a 0.5-2s room-tone sample (optional)
- **Lead-in Silence (s)** (number)
- **Lead-out Silence (s)** (number)
- **Room Tone Between (s)** (number)
- **Output Format** (select)

## When to use

- Preparing audiobook chapters for ACX, Audible, or iTunes submission that require strict lead-in and lead-out silence durations.
- Concatenating multiple recorded audio segments while maintaining a consistent background room tone instead of jarring absolute silence.
- Formatting voiceover tracks with customizable silence gaps to ensure professional pacing between sections.

## How it works

- Upload your primary chapter audio file and optionally add up to two additional chapter files for concatenation.
- Choose between generating synthetic silence or uploading a custom room-tone audio sample to match your recording environment.
- Set the duration for the lead-in silence, lead-out silence, and the room-tone gap between chapters.
- Select your preferred output format, such as WAV or MP3, and process the files to download the combined, ACX-compliant audio.

## Use cases

- Formatting raw audiobook recordings to pass ACX QA checks for lead-in and lead-out silence.
- Stitching together split voiceover takes with natural-sounding room tone transitions.
- Adding precise silent margins to podcast episodes or audio dramas before distribution.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between synthetic silence and a room-tone sample?

Synthetic silence is absolute digital silence, while a room-tone sample uses a clip of your actual recording environment's background noise for a more natural transition.

### What are the ACX requirements for lead-in and lead-out silence?

ACX requires each chapter file to have 0.5 to 1 second of room tone at the very beginning (lead-in) and at the very end (lead-out).

### Can I concatenate more than three chapters at once?

This tool supports uploading up to three chapter files per run to concatenate them into a single output file.

### What audio formats are supported for output?

You can export your processed audio file in WAV, MP3, FLAC, M4A, or OGG formats.

### How long should my uploaded room-tone sample be?

A sample of 0.5 to 2 seconds of clean background noise from your recording space is recommended.
